Well, I got very excited when I heard it was National Mushroom Day today.
But I gather that’s in the United States and ours was last week.
Nonetheless, it’s very appropriate because I was just thinking about posting about the tremendous variety of different fungi that I saw while I was out walking at the weekend.
I’ve no idea what they are but am going to do some googling.
I certainly wouldn’t touch any of them, if for no other reason that they were mostly growing out of piles of horse poo.
Now I’m wondering what the difference between mushrooms and toadstools is. If I find out anything useful, I’ll add to this post.
Postscript: The Quantock Rangers have been looking for fungi this week as well. Cothelstone where they went, is not far away.

There are so many different types of fungi that you will probably have your work cut out trying to ID all those. I wish that we were taught to ID when we were young, think of all the delicious meals we could make – free.
